Squirt



Squirt NIHL 1

Ryan Holke Bio Coach Ryan begins his 6th season with the Vikings as a Head Coach as well as Head Goalie Instructor. Coach Ryan is a life-long Viking, playing his entire youth hockey career here. After a standout playing career between the pipes for the Vikings, Ryan immediately began coaching and instructing youth players. Ryan has been a lead Goalie Instructor for the Vikings for several years as well as working with the Chicago Fury Tier I AAA Club and G.E.T. Goaltending School. As a player, Ryan helped lead his team to the USA Hockey National Championship Tournament twice bringing home the Silver Medal at the Midget Minor level. Ryan will focus most of his time on the Mite, Squirt and Pee Wee Goalies.

Jim Matella Bio Jim is heading into his 3rd year coaching with the Vikings. His prior two years were spent as an assistant coach and head coach at both the Peewee and Squirt levels. Jim grew up in the south suburbs where he played his early youth hockey for the Chicago Hawks and Downers Grove Huskies. His Bantam Minor through Midget Major years were spent playing Tier 1 AAA hockey with the Chicago Young Americans, Chicago Mission, and Chicago Chill. Following his AAA years, Jim moved on to play ACHA Division I Hockey for Saint Louis University.



Pee Wee



PW NIHL 1

Mike Breslin Bio Coach Mike brings over 20 years of coaching experience to the Vikings, with teaching experience all the way from Minor Mites up to High School aged players. He has acted as Hockey Director for the Blues, Bruins and Jaguars and has spent the last 2 seasons as a head coach with AAA Team Illinois. Coach Mike brings a no-nonsense style of coaching and works hard to get the most out of his players. His personal mission statement is ‘To give back to others what I have experienced in my hockey career. To share and demonstrate with the players, the coaching staff and parents the importance of hard work, honesty, dedication and commitment, which will enhance the lives of all... on and off the ice’.

Pee Wee NIHL 3

Mike Distefano Bio Coach Mike Distefano returns to the club for his third season as a Viking. Mike played his Tier II hockey with the former Chicago Saints club prior to making the jump to AAA Open Hockey. Mike’s AAA hockey includes stops with the Chicago Jesters and Randhurst Flames. Following his AAA career, Mike went on to play in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for both the Kitchener Rangers and Windsor Spitfires. Coach Mike has worked as an instructor in many youth hockey camps and clinics in recent years and also spent time as a high school coach for several years. Mike currently works for the National Hockey League (NHL) as an Off-Ice Official for Blackhawks games at the United Center.



Girls



Girls U16 AA

Keith Mizwicki/Ken Morrow Bio Coach Keith, “Mizzer” is entering his second year with the Vikings following several years of coaching at the Tier I AAA. His Tier I AAA Coaching experience includes six seasons as a Head Coach at both the Chicago Chill and Chicago Mission. In all, Keith has been coaching for 15 seasons which also includes recent years with the Girls Programs. Keith played his college hockey at NCAA Division III St. Norbert College and also has served as skills instructor for the Bauer Selects Girls Program. Mizzer brings a wealth of knowledge to the Vikings along with an intense and focused practice style targeted to making players better. He will be a true asset to the Vikings for years to come.



Bantam



Bantam NIHL 1

Andy Brown Bio Coach Andy has been chosen to lead the Bantam AA Team for the 2016-2017 USA Hockey Season. Coach Andy brings a solid resume to the Vikings this year. Coach Andy grew up in Downers Grove and played his youth hockey locally with the Huskies, Flames and Team Illinois AAA. Aside from Andy's coaching experience at the Bantam AA and Midget AA levels in recent years, Andy was a member of two State and USA Hockey Regional Championship teams in his Major Midget years along with two trips to the USA Hockey National Championships. Coach Andy was also an OHL Draft Pick back in 1999. Andy is a great young coach who understands how to coach Midget-aged kids. Andy will be a tireless worker to teach the kids a great deal and to offer assistance in guiding them to higher levels of hockey after Midget Major. Coach Andy is a no frills type of coach who is hands-on and will teach the players on his team in a positive and very challenging way. Andy enters his fifth season with the Vikings, winning the NIHL U16 Championship with the Vikings in 2013.

Bantam 03 CSDHL

Nick Pollos/Mitch Stevens Bio Coach Nick enters his 25th year of coaching hockey at various levels, from Tier II, Tier I and the Jr. A level. In addition to being a Head Coach, Nick has served as a consultant and scout for programs at the Junior A and Pro levels. In addition, Coach Nick has worked closely with dozens of players as they prepared to make the NCAA DI commitments. Coach Nick grew up in the Chicago area playing his youth hockey in the Northwest Suburbs.

Coach Nick brings to the Vikings, a solid foundation at the lower levels focusing on skill development and skating and concentrates on building upon that foundation as our players move to the older levels. This foundation gives our older teams the skills to continue to develop their game at higher speeds and competitive levels.

Coach Mitch enters his 4th season as a Vikings Head Coach. Mitch has worked with the Vikings Spring Program as a Lead Instructor for four seasons and has developed into one of the areas top up-and-coming coaches. Growing up a Viking, Mitch excelled and later went on to play his AAA Hockey for the Chicago Fury U18 Major Midget Team. Coach Mitch brings a great deal of energy, commitment, character and a special knack to coach kids. He is a high energy type of coach that brings the best out in his players and focuses on player development above all. The Vikings are proud to have Mitch as a member of the coaching staff.

Bantam NIHL 2

Dan Armijo Bio Coach Dan is a local product, playing his AAA Tier 1 Hockey at Team Illinois and the Chicago Mission. Dan went on to play Jr. A Hockey in both the NAHL and the USHL before moving to NCAA Hockey at UMASS. Recently Dan served as Head Assistant Coach to the Milwaukee Pettit Eagles where his team won the Varsity League Championship.

Bantam NIHL 3

Jeff Hmura Bio Jeff Hmura has over 30 years coaching experience in the Chicagoland area from the Mite to Midget levels, from Bronze through Elite tiers, including Central States.

He believes in placing a strong emphasis on skills and skating regardless of the player’s age. This leads them to become players who have better vision on the ice, which leads to better overall hockey sense.

He is a straightforward x’s and o’s kind of coach, building stability and a family-like attitude among his players



Midget



Midget U18 NIHL

Kevin Coyne Bio Kevin Coyne returns to the Vikings for his 5th season with the club after leading the Midget Minors to a Wolves Cup Championship last season. Coach Coyne grew up in the Palos-area, playing his AA hockey for the Vikings before moving on to AAA stints with the Chicago Chill, Team Illinois and Wisconsin AAA.

Coach Coyne then moved on to play Jr. A hockey for the Chicago Force and El Paso Rhinos before finally landing at Becker College in Worcester, Mass. where he played NCAA Div. III ice hockey, golf and lacrosse.

Coach Coyne has instructed for Robby Glanz, Turcotte Stickhandling and European Elite Hockey during his playing and coaching career. Coach Coyne’s diverse playing career has provided him with a wealth of knowledge and an ability to breakdown the fundamentals of the game for multiple age groups.

As a coach, he is dedicated to teaching players basic hockey skills and working with each player to achieve their ultimate hockey goals. The Vikings are proud to have him back for another season as the U18 head coach.

Midget U15 CSDHL

Goalie Instructors

Ryan Holke -

Jeremiah Kimento -

Jeremiah grew up a southsider, playing his Tier I AAA Hockey for Team Illinois. After AAA, Jeremiah played his Jr. A Hockey in the NAHL and also competed as a member of Team USA in international competition at the Junior Under 20 level. Following his Junior A career, Jeremiah committed to play for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, where he helped lead his team for four CCHA Seasons.  Jeremiah will focus his practice time on our Bantam and Midget goalies.

Ryan and Jeremiah will serve as Lead Instructors for all Vikings Goalie Clinics.
