Over $32,000 raised for Childhood Cancer Research

March 21, 2014, Arctic Ice Arena.

The Vikings were well represented today as many of it's members and several coaches sat in the barber chair for the big shave at the St. Baldrick's event.

The event featured a two-hour open skate sponsored by the Vikings and a Bulls ticket raffle sponsored by the Doyle family.  Check-in began at 5pm and by 5:30, both the ice and the barber chairs were full of participants.  By 7:30pm, there were bald people everywhere!

When all was said and done, the event raised over $32,000, not including matching and late donations, and was a great success by all measuring sticks, not to mention a whole lot of fun.  A special thanks to Viking moms Mindy Goudy, Kristen Bruns, Amy Kielczynski and Angie Hollowell for organizing this wonderful event.  Without their hard work and dedication, the Vikings would not have had a chance to participate in such a local and meaningful way.  Thanks also to all of the other Viking families that participated and volunteered to make the event such a success.

St. Baldrick's Foundation is a childhood cancer charity funding research to help find cures for children with cancer. The Foundation raises money for childhood cancer research primarily through head-shaving events. Volunteers, sponsored by family, friends and employers, shave their heads in solidarity with children who typically lose their hair during cancer treatment. Events have taken place in all 50 US states and 28 countries. Since 2000, St. Baldrick's Foundation volunteers have organized nearly 4,200 head-shaving events and shaved over 190,500 heads, raising over $118 million for life-saving childhood cancer research.
