Congratulations to our PW A1 team for taking 2nd place in the Blackhawk Cup State Championship yesterday, falling to the Leafs Central States 3-2 in the final game.

The game was a hard fought battle from the first puck drop.  The Leafs struck first, scoring with around 3 minutes left in the first period.  Not to be outdone, the Vikings tapped the Leafs for a goal of their own just 45 seconds later to knot up the score at the end of the first.

Early into the 2nd, the Leafs scored again on a screened one on one in front of the Vikings net.  The 2-1 score would hold until the Leafs tallied their 3rd goal with 7 minutes to play in the game.  Just 11 seconds later, the Vikings would answer again with their second goal.

A mad scramble at the end of the 3rd, with the Vikings on a 6 on 4 advantage with the goaltender pulled, would not result in the tying goal, despite numerous shots on goal and quality scoring chances.  Unfortunately, the game would end with the Leafs on top, 3-2.

This team had a wonderful season, going 36-12-6 overall and showing very well all season in AA and AAA tourneys.  The Vikings are very proud of these boys!  Great job Vikings!

From PW A1 Team Manager, Jim Cassin: "I would like thank all of the Vikings parents and families that awoke on a Sunday morning to watch our team compete for the state championship.

Although the outcome was not what we had hoped for, it was amazing to see the support the club has for it's teams. With this kind of support in each and every team, this club will continue to grow and become an elite club in our state.
THANK YOU ALL AND GO VIKINGS!"
